It was a huge success.Many students have started bringing toys to school. Outside toys like trucks to play in the sand, balls and skipping ropes are always welcome. Some students have permission to use fidgets or stress balls as a learning tool. Stuffies, little dolls, slime are not permitted during instructional time. Inside toys are becoming a distraction and source of conflict. Please support us in asking your child to keep these toys at home.We have a number of snapping turtle nests on our yard. We have asked students to protect wildlife and not touch the turtles or dig up the eggs. Please remind them of this important rule if they play on the yard during the weekends or after school. Monday is Play Day . Your child will be given bbq hot dogs and a milkshake, so please pack less lunch. Many activities are waterbased - the fabulous foam machine and the firefighter hose. Please have your child dress in a school appropriate bathing suit under their clothing. Many students choose to wear a tshirt and shorts instead of a bathing suit. Please send undergarments and an extra set of clothes for after the activities and a bag for wet clothes. You can also send a towel, sunscreen and a hat. It is sure to be a great day.Dads- Don't read this. A special father's day/caregiver's day gift will be coming home next week. It would be helpful to put it in the dryer for a short time to "set" it. Next week is a busy one with EQAO and Track and Field. Friday is a PA Day for teachers to work on report cards. Please make sure that your child has outdoor shoes and indoor shoes suitable for gym activities. Flip flops and Crocs (even in Sports Mode) are not safe in the gym. We had a very successful lockdown drill this week. In the coming weeks we will be practising fire drills. We welcomed 20 new kindergarten students to or school community. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Starting Monday, Mrs. Appleton's class will be selling big freezies for a twoonie at second recess. The funds raised will go towards the end of year trip.</h2> Have a wonderful weekend. Education is strongest when schools and families work together.  Our school counsel has been a joy to work with.  Their commitment to supporting school initiatives and student activities is commendable.And the students...I will miss the students most of all.  I take so many memories with me - from COVID video announcements to hard-core dodge ball, Teams reading and math groups.  Panthers are  unique and wonderful students who continually inspire me with their humour, kindness, empathy and growth. There are some concerns about ticks on the yard. It will be sprayed witha natural garlic solution in May, after the rainy season. Please check your children for ticks at home. Planning our much anticipated June Fun Day. You do not have to attend the meeting to help out. I will be away from April 10 - 24th on a medical leave. Carnaval was a fabulous event. Many thanks to Madame Platz and her energetic 7/8 team for organizing the event and to our SF Firefighters for overseeing the fire, When I asked a student "What was your favourite part?", she said "EVERYTHING!". When I asked a grade 8 "How is your day going?", he said "It's exhausting working with little kids!". Our first special event of March is the grade one science fair on Wednesday, March 4 fron 12 to 1 in the library. All are welcome to visit. The week before March break, we will have our traditional pancake breakfast and a Scholastic Book Fair. The senior basketball team had a great time representing our school at the Queens tournament. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to show off their moves at the Winter Wonderland Dance. Next week, in addition to the amazing learning activities, we will be recognizing Pink Shirt Day with a perormance by Abby Stewart and enjoying a Carnaval. The grade 7s and 8s have prepared a variety of activities for the younger students. Local firefighters will be here to supervise a bonfire for us. Please ensure that your child is dressed for longer outside play on Friday. We will also be hosting a local author, Janet Revell and illustrator Rhonda Babcock as they share their first chidren's book Binx. Students will create beautiul art pieces. The junior and intermediate floor hockey teams represented us well at the small schools tournament. Tuesday is senior basketball at Queens. The permission form is on SchoolDay.On Thursday there will be a kindrgarten to grade three and a grade 4 to grade 8 dance in the gym. Admission is free. Students may buy a chocolate bar and juice box combo or a chips and juice box combo for $2. All proceeds will go towards the Grade 7/8 end of year celebration. Report cards went home today.
