🐾 Panther Post 🐾
October Has Arrived!
October is here! It's hard to believe we've already been in school for a full month. Technically, that means we're already about one-tenth of the way through the school year! I'm not sure where the time has gone. October has always been my favourite month, with its beautiful colours, crisp mornings, and comfortable temperatures.
It was wonderful to meet so many of our families at Open House last night. Thank you to everyone who joined us. It was a pleasure putting faces to so many names, and I loved seeing the pride on our students' faces as they introduced their families to their school and their classrooms. Events like these remind us of the strength of our Panther community.
Lockdown Drill
Today we completed our fall lockdown drill. Safety drills are an important part of our emergency preparedness planning and help ensure that students and staff know what to do in an emergency situation.
We encourage families to check in with their children and debrief the experience. Even practising for an emergency can feel unsettling for some students. As adults, we know these procedures are in place to keep everyone safe, but children may still have questions or feelings about the drill. Taking a few moments to talk about it at home can be very reassuring.
Congratulations to Our New Parent Council!

Concussion Protocols
The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.
On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.
All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.
