As September comes to a close, we continue to see our students demonstrating kindness, perseverance, and school spirit each and every day. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our school community a welcoming and supportive place for all learners.
🧡 Orange Shirt Day - September 30
On Wednesday, September 30, we will recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity for students and staff to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools while honouring Survivors, their families, and communities. We encourage students and staff to wear orange as a visible reminder that Every Child Matters.
🏃 Terry Fox Walk - Monday
Thank you to everyone who supported our Terry Fox Walk happening week. It is wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate Terry's legacy of courage, determination, and hope. Through events like this, we continue to inspire our students to make a difference and help others.
🎉 Open House - October 1
We are excited to welcome families to our Open House on Wednesday, October 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit classrooms, meet staff, and see some of the learning taking place throughout our school. We are also thrilled to have Kona Ice on-site during the event as a fundraiser for yard toys for our Kindergarten yard.
👥 Parent Council Meeting
Our first Parent Council meeting of the year will take place on Monday in the library. The evening will begin with the Parent Council election and vote at 5:00 p.m., followed by the meeting. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend. Parent Council is a fantastic way to stay connected, share ideas, and support our school community. We hope to see many new and returning faces there!
🔒 Lockdown Drill
As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, we will be conducting a lockdown drill next Friday. Staff will review procedures with students beforehand to ensure everyone understands what to expect. These drills are an important part of maintaining a safe learning environment and are conducted in a calm, age-appropriate manner.

Concussion Protocols
The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.
On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.
All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.
