As we settle into the new school year, there are many exciting opportunities for our Panthers to learn, connect, and grow together. Please take a moment to review these important dates and updates.

🏃 Terry Fox Walk

Our school will proudly participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk this September 28th. This event gives students an opportunity to learn about Terry's incredible legacy of courage, perseverance, and hope while supporting cancer research.

👥 Parent Council

We are fortunate to have an active and supportive Parent Council that helps enhance the educational experience for all students. Parent Council meetings are a wonderful way to stay informed, share ideas, and become involved in our school community. New members are always welcome. Watch for information about our first meeting of the year and consider joining us!

Our election will take place on September 28th at 5PM with our first meeting happening right after. There will NOT be childcare available for this meeting, but if you would like this option for further meetings please let the school know.

🧡 Orange Shirt Day - September 30

On September 30, we will recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange as we honour Survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home. Throughout the month, classes will engage in age-appropriate learning about truth, reconciliation, and the importance of creating a more respectful and inclusive future for all.

🤝 Consent Week - September 21-25

During Consent Week, students will engage in learning that promotes respect, healthy relationships, personal boundaries, and communication. Lessons will be age-appropriate and aligned with the Ontario curriculum. Building students' understanding of consent helps foster safe, caring, and respectful school environments for everyone.

🟢 Rowan's Law Day - September 30

Rowan's Law Day helps raise awareness about concussion safety and prevention. Throughout the day, students will learn about the importance of recognizing concussion symptoms, reporting injuries, and following proper return-to-learn and return-to-play procedures. Ensuring student safety remains a top priority at our school.

🚨 Practicing School Safety Procedures

Over the coming weeks, students and staff will participate in several safety drills, including fire drills, lockdown drills, and hold-and-secure procedures. These drills are required in all schools and help ensure everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency. Staff take great care to prepare and support students in an age-appropriate manner so that these practices are conducted calmly and safely.

🙋 Volunteer Record Check Process

We value the support of our volunteers and appreciate the many ways families contribute to our school community. If you plan to volunteer at school events, field trips, or in classrooms, a current police record check is required. Individuals wishing to volunteer must have a recent police record check completed (within 6 months of start date).  To facilitate this process, prospective volunteers must be provided a letter for the school to take to the police detachment that covers the area in which they reside.   Completing this process early can help ensure you're ready to participate when volunteer opportunities arise.

School Council Nominations and Elections 2026-2027

Parents and guardians are invited to become involved in the Prince Charles School Council. School Council plays an important role in supporting student achievement and well-being by fostering meaningful collaboration between families, staff, students, and the school community. Nominations will be due by September 22nd at 4PM, with our first official meeting on the 28th at 5 PM.

Positions for Election

Chair

The Chair works closely with the Principal, Vice-Principals, staff, families, and community members to support the work of School Council. Responsibilities include chairing meetings, setting agendas in consultation with school administration, facilitating discussion, communicating with the school board, sharing relevant information with council members, and supporting council initiatives and activities throughout the school year.

Vice-Chair / Co-Chair

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair and presides over meetings when the Chair is unavailable. This role also helps coordinate and oversee council-sponsored events, programs, and initiatives.

Treasurer

The Treasurer works with the council to develop and monitor budgets, maintains accurate financial records, prepares financial reports, and serves as a liaison regarding council finances.

Secretary

The Secretary attends council meetings, records and distributes meeting minutes, and maintains council records and documentation.

Indigenous Representative

This position supports the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives and voices within School Council initiatives and discussions. As a newer role, its responsibilities will continue to evolve in collaboration with council members and the school community.

Inclusive Education Coordinator

This position helps promote inclusive practices and supports conversations related to equity, belonging, accessibility, and student success.

Fundraising Coordinator

The Fundraising Coordinator plans and organizes fundraising activities in support of School Council priorities and works closely with the Treasurer regarding budgeting and financial reporting.

We encourage all interested parents and guardians to consider becoming involved. Your voice, experiences, and perspectives help strengthen our school community and support the success and well-being of all NDSS students.

Medical Plans of Care

If your student requires a medical plan (i.e., Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, etc.) or is required to take medication at school, please follow the smore below and have all paperwork completed by your family doctor as soon as possible.

School Supplies and Labelling

Our school will provide the necessary supplies that your student will need for learning. However, if you are looking for back-to-school suggestions from LDSB, here are a few things to think about bringing with you on the first day:

·       Backpack

·       Labelled water bottle

·       Lunch bag with a peanut-free/nut-free lunch and snacks

·       Personal pencil case to hold any supplies you may want to bring (pencils, erasers, scissors, ruler, pencil crayons, etc.)

·       Indoor shoes to be left at school

·       Extra clothes (Kindergarten/primary)

To avoid your student's clothing ending up in the lost and found, please consider labelling items, such as indoor and outdoor clothing, indoor and outdoor shoes, containers, school supplies, etc.

All visitors must buzz at the left side entrance (Right hand post by the front door). Families are to wait outside for their student. Please note all volunteers require a CPIC with vulnerable sector check.

Concussion Protocols

The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.

On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.

All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.
