Principal's Greeting - Welcome New and Returning Students and Families
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! It's going to be the best year EVER!! Our Caring and dedicated PCPS staff are eager to begin a new year of learning with your children. We have been very busy preparing for our students’ return, and there is a wonderful energy and sense of excitement in the air! Miss April, Mr. Harding, Mrs. Brown and our educators have done a great job creating a welcoming learning environment for all of our learners.
Junior Kindergarten students have received letters for their entry to school. All other students will be directed to their classrooms Wednesday when they arrive at school. Due to privacy, we cannot post classlists on the doors or electronically.
We have had many new registrations. This is great news for our community. It is likely that we will have to reorganize our classes on September 15th, as we have some large classes at present. Our staffing process does not allow for the changes to be made at this time.
During the first few days of school, teachers will focus on getting to know your children and familiarizing them with the routines and expectations. There will be activities to build a strong sense of community, and to ensure that all students feel a sense of belonging and team spirit. We will also be assessing children in key areas to determine strengths and needs so that all of our students show steady progress and feel confident in their learning.
We all look forward to a fabulous year.
Sincerely,
Mary Jane Jarvis
At Prince Charles Public School, we care about you.

School Advisory Council
School Councils are important partners in education. School Councils provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and well-being and enhance the accountability of the education system. The Board values the role and contribution of our School Advisory Council members and their commitment to help boost parent involvement and serve as an ongoing mechanism for effective two-way communication and consultation between the school and the school community.

Cell Phones at School
Our teachers have spent countless hours planning and preparing our instructional program. At the heart of deep learning is active student engagement. Over the past years, more and more and younger and younger students have been bringing cell phones to school and into classrooms. Although cell phones have become a way of life and a safety tool for communication while travelling, in the classroom they have become a distraction, an interruption and a method of exchanging messages that are not suitable for school. Playing games, using social media, texting and taking photos of peers are tempting activities when cell phones are stored in desks or pockets and taken outside for recess. These activities take away from valuable learning time.
The Ministry of Education prohibits student cell phone use at school. They must be turned off and out of sight. The past two years, we collected student cell phones and stored them, locked up, in the office. We have noticed an increase in student engagement in lessons and independent and collaborative learning tasks. Of equal importance, we noticed a very significant reduction in emotional distress and social anxiety in the classroom. Students know that they may always come to the office to connect with their parent/guardian if they need to do so. Many students have decided to leave their phones at home and many have commented on the positive impact of being away from social media at school.
Students are now accustomed to the above process. Students found to be using their phone during class time, without educator permission, will have the phone confiscated until a parent can pick it up.
All technology that children will require for their learning tasks will be provided by the school.
We do recognize that cell phones are a communication tool that parents and guardians use to get messages to their children. We are requesting that parents call the office to reach their child in case of an emergency or change of plans.
Please discuss the importance of protecting valuable learning time with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me (Mrs. Jarvis) at the school.
Arrival and Dismissal Routines
On September 3rd, staff with classlists will meet students at the front of the school and direct them to the appropriate teacher and door.We have a back-up plan for a rainy day.
Please note that supervision begins at 8:50 in the morning. For the safety of your child, please do not allow them to arrive at school before that time unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
At dismissal time, both halls and the front entrance can become extremely crowded. As such, we kindly ask that all parents/guardians please meet their child(ren) in the school yard, or at the front of the school.
Please note that the end of the day is very busy in the main office. Should you need to make changes to your child's "end of day routine", it is always best to send a note to the teacher or contact the school first thing in the morning! Please do not leave messages on the voice mail pertaining to dismissal changes. Please speak to a person.
The staff parking lot is closed anytime that there is a school bus or van in the lot. The family parking lot will be roped off at 3:25 each afternoon until the buses leave their lot. This is very important for student safety. If you cannot arrive before 3:25, you are welcome to park at the church and walk over. It's 200 steps each way.
The safety of our students as they enter/leave school is our highest priority.
